Gastric Bypass Laproscopic Surgery
Gastric bypass is a procedure where the upper portion of the stomach is formed into a pouch that is bypassed to the intestine. By doing this, the recipient will naturally eat less and consume fewer calories. Along with healthy lifestyle changes, this can lead to weight loss that was impossible to achieve before. There are even celebrities who've openly gone through gastric bypass surgery, most recently TV weatherman Al Roker and musician Carnie Wilson.
There are different methods of gastric bypass surgery. One popular method is gastric bypass laproscopic surgery. This is achieved by inserting a small camera into the abdomen via a tube that enters through a set of small incisions. By using the laproscope, or camera, the surgeons are better able to see inside the abdomen and perform the surgery. Gastric bypass laproscopic surgery is a good choice because it's less invasive. Because of the camera, the surgery can be performed with smaller incisions and thus, less risk.
Like all types of gastric bypass, gastric bypass laproscopic surgery is a life changing process. You will be extensively examined and evaluated prior to the surgery, and your doctor may recommend ceasing the use of tobacco, alcohol and certain medications for month before your surgery date. Your doctor will fill you in on any potential risks, such as infection, bleeding, or adverse reactions to anesthesia.
Following the surgery, there will be a lengthly recovery period. You can expect to stay in the hospital for five days following the procedure, and be placed on a special diet for two months afterwards. The first phase of this diet consists of clear liquids only. Eventually, you will be allowed to eat from every food group in small portions spaced throughout the day.
Another option that involves a laproscope but is even less invasive and offers shorter recovery is the mini gastric bypass. This procedure can be done on an outpatient basis and completed in under an hour.
To find out more about gastric bypass laproscopic surgery, speak to a qualified surgeon or surgeons in your area. They will educate you on how the procedures are performed and what you can expect before, during and after.
